Young Offender Program (YO)
Approximately 350 High school students are assigned annually by the Court to this program while they await disposition of their cases. Clients are also referred to the program as part of their probation. The students attend class at the Alternative Learning Center during the morning five days per week, or are monitored in public high schools. Classes are led by certified Hartford Board of Education teachers. In the afternoon, activities are supervised by CPA staff, who also follow up on any other problems or needs the students may have until the disposition of their case. Curfew checks and family interventions comprise a large part of the program. (1991)
