During the ten years Bob was in prison for drug use and larceny, he found
a creative way to block out the commotion and stench that surrounded him.
Bob became an artist. Sculpting animals out of soap using the cap of a
pen gave him a sense of peace, purpose and pride in having small gifts
for his sons when they visited. A fellow inmate recognized Bob’s
artistic talents and encouraged him to join CPA’s Prison Arts Program.
The Prison Arts Program did more than expand Bob’s artistic talents,
it helped him realize who he was: an artist, son and father. As his
talents improved, Bob gained publicity through the Prison Arts Program. His
sculptures and drawings were displayed in the community and he was
interviewed on Connecticut Public Television. Now released, Bob enjoys
a good relationship with his sons and feels a sense of worth in bringing
his art into the community. He is creating a website to display his artwork
and has volunteered to help others in the Prison Arts Program.
